There Was A Time by Jen Silver

A short story

Fin lives in a seaside resort and works behind the bar of the Golden Dragon. The pub is busy in the summer months with holiday makers and Fin has her pick of women for hot liaisons in the dunes. During the slow winter evenings, Fin spends her time thinking about the following summer and wondering who she’ll end up in the dunes with.

On the night of an important darts match, a stranger walks into the bar and Fin’s life as she knows it is about to change forever. Fin is in love.

This is the first thing I’ve read by Jen Silver. I know she has a full length book due out soon, and if this story is anything to go by, I’m going to be first in line to read it.

This short story is well written, fast paced and has a lot packed into it. It is told entirely from Fin’s point of view, so we get to know a bit about her background and the type of person she is.

The characters are multi-faceted and down to earth, just like our everyday friends.

This is a story of how ones life can change in the blink of an eye when we least expect it. Love can strike any of us, at any moment and our dreams can come true.
